Year 10
Empowering Minds, Embracing Passions
SEDA College NT embraces each student’s passion for sport, where we support their individual journey and empower them to complete their secondary education. Therefore, the foundation of Year 10 at the College is the commencement of the Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training (NTCET) combined with a Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualification in Sport Coaching.
During Year 10, the College brings learning to life, where students apply what they are learning in real-life settings. Alongside a practical connection to industry and an individual approach to teaching and learning, students will acquire real-life skills where they will learn to coach sports and help facilitate community participation programs for a wide variety of participants.
Furthermore, students are treated as young adults and given opportunities to develop their independence through structured work experience and attending a variety of facilities in Darwin and its surrounds. This is facilitated in a supportive environment, where students are given the time to mature and develop the personal attributes that will help them be successful in both their personal and professional lives.
Curriculum
Students engage in a curriculum that enhances learning through their interest in sport and recreation.
Our curriculum is delivered in collaboration with our industry partners so that students develop the knowledge, skills, and attributes of current industry professionals. Below is the curriculum students will be enrolled in during Year 10:
English builds on the oral and written skills which have been developed in the middle years of schooling. The curriculum focuses on students responding to and evaluating literature and language as well as achieving an understanding of the relationship between context, purpose, and audience.
Students reflect on and respond to a range of literature and language texts which may include novels, films, plays, poetry, or media. They also complete an intertextual study which analyses the language features of different texts or makes connections between texts.
Students produce a variety of creative written and oral texts which may include imaginative, informative, or literary writing. Students are encouraged to read independently and produce a folio of four or five summative pieces which include both written and oral tasks.
Essential Mathematics offers students the opportunity to extend their mathematical skills in ways that apply to practical problem-solving in everyday and workplace contexts. Students apply their mathematics to diverse settings, including everyday calculations, financial management, business applications, measurement and geometry, and statistics in social contexts.
In Essential Mathematics there is an emphasis on developing students’ computational skills and expanding their ability to apply their mathematical skills in flexible and resourceful ways. This subject is intended for students planning to pursue a career in a range of trades or vocations.
Integrated Learning is a subject that enables students to make links between aspects of their lives and their learning. The curriculum focus is designed around a theme, community, or context that has meaning to the students. In this instance, the focus is Indigenous Studies.
Through the lens of the curriculum focus, students develop their learning about a real-world situation, task, event, or other learning opportunity, while also growing their knowledge about themselves as learners, and their capabilities.
Within this subject, students are required to work together to coordinate and run an Indigenous game, develop their understanding of the Indigenous Culture and create a video on a specific interest within the topic of Indigenous understanding and sport.
In Physical Education, students study human physical activity and its place in the lives of individuals and groups of people. Students examine the practical application of human physical skills and analyse personal, community, and global issues that surround the role of human physical activity in society.
Students learn mainly through physical activity in a way that promotes immediate as well as long-term benefits to themselves and society. Physical Education is an experiential subject in which students explore their physical capacities and investigate the factors that influence performance. They explore and analyse associated performance, health, and lifestyle issues.
Students acquire an understanding of human functioning and physical activity and an awareness of the community structures and practices that influence participation in physical activity. They develop skills in communication and investigation and the ability to apply knowledge to practical situations. Students gain enjoyment from skilled performance in individual and group activities.
Exploring Identities and Futures (EIF) is an exciting flagship subject that responds to the rapidly changing local and global context that our students are living and learning in. EIF is a Stage 1 subject that supports students to learn more about themselves and explore their aspirations and future.
EIF prepares students for a different way of thinking and learning in senior school. As students begin their SACE journey, they build the knowledge, skills, and capabilities required to be thriving learners and are empowered to take ownership of where their pathway leads, exploring interests, work, travel and/or further learning.

Our son was struggling through middle school. Since joining SEDA we have seen his passion for learning ignite and thrive. Mickayla has been an amazing support and mentor. She has made sure she has contacted us for positives within our son’s time at SEDA, easy to approach and very supportive. We love seeing our child mature and excel with everything he is doing. The opportunities are endless and exceed our expectations from when we began with SEDA.
